Chi-Town Chess: The Englewood Open is a fun outdoor chess tournament that will be hosted in the I Grow Chicago Nature Park in the summer of 2022! This 3-day chess festival places Englewood at the center of the chess world in Chicago, bringing people of all ages and abilities together to play, mentor, learn, and compete. Vernon Herrion, Englewood native and lead artist on the project, will build ten handcrafted chess tables and twenty stump chairs from reclaimed lumber from Chicago’s urban forest, diverting trees from the wood chipper to be recycled into beautiful, functional works of art.
